Why Kompis exists
We kept meeting people who had studied Swedish for years and still avoided speaking it. Not because they lacked words — because they were afraid of getting it wrong. Kompis exists to close that last gap: from understanding Swedish to actually using it.
Why speaking confidence matters
Reading and listening get most learners to a useful level. Speaking is what unlocks work, friendships, and life in Sweden. Confidence isn't a personality trait — it's a habit built through small, repeated, low-pressure reps. That's what Kompis is built for.
Why Telegram
We wanted Kompis to live where conversation already happens. No new app to download, no login screens, no friction. Telegram lets us deliver voice and text in the same place, on the phone you already use.
A complement, not a replacement
SFI, language schools and teachers do the work Kompis can't — structure, grammar, feedback, community. Kompis is the daily practice between those lessons. We work alongside them, never in place of them.
Who built it
Kompis was started by a Lund University student in Helsingborg, with feedback from real learners across Skåne and the support of LU Innovation. It's still small and still listening — every Pilot II application is read by the team.
