Method

Understanding Swedish is not the problem. Saying it out loud is.

People finish SFI, pass the tests, follow the news and still switch to English at the counter. That gap is not knowledge. It is rehearsal, and it is the only thing Kompis is designed to close.

The home screen. Your next conversation, and one button to start talking.

What it feels like

One companion, four quiet jobs.

It listens first

A conversation, not a lesson.

You talk about your day, your job, the phone call you are dreading. Kompis answers in warm, natural Swedish and keeps you going.

Hej! Hinner du prata idag?

Ja! Jag pratade med min chef idag.

Look at that. Yesterday you could not.

It remembers

Day twelve knows about day one.

Your job, your kids' names, the appointment you were nervous about. Practice compounds instead of restarting every time.

Remembered

Tobi practised forklift vocabulary 3 days in a row. The test is in July.

It fits around shifts

Five minutes. Whenever they exist.

On the bus, over coffee, after a late shift. The design target is the smallest session that still counts as speaking.

It adds up

Small sessions, visible change.

Vocabulary you have actually said out loud grows week over week. That is the number that predicts speaking at the counter.

The loop

Prepare. Practise. Reflect.

One loop, around a real conversation in your week. Everything below is how each step is built.

01

Prepare

“I have to talk to Anna about my back.”

Tell Kompis about a conversation you have coming up. It keeps it, and brings it back when the day arrives.

02

Practise

“Jag behöver prata med dig om min rygg…”

Say it out loud, or type it. Swedish, English, or a mix. No score, no audience, as many attempts as you want.

03

Reflect

“It went okay. I forgot one word.”

Come back afterwards and say how it went. Kompis notices what worked and what you want to try next time.

Design principles

Six decisions behind the loop.

A voice message, an answer, and the phrase modelled back.

01

Corrections that don't sting

Mistakes are answered by modelling the right phrase back, not by red pen. Explanations appear only when you ask for them.

02

It remembers you

Kompis carries context between days: your job, your kids' names, the appointment you were nervous about. Practice compounds instead of restarting.

03

Voice and text both count

Some days you talk out loud. Some days the baby is sleeping and you type. Neither is treated as the lesser option.

04

Short enough to actually do

Five minutes on a tired Tuesday beats an hour you never start. The design target is the smallest session that still counts as speaking.

05

You control the memory

You can see what Kompis keeps, pause it for a while, or delete everything. Nothing about you is shared with an employer, a school or a kommun.

06

It sits beside the classroom

Kompis does not teach grammar, grade you, or replace a teacher. It is the rehearsal space between lessons. Where what you already know becomes usable.
I stopped rehearsing sentences in my head before speaking. I just spoke.
